National & International Outreach

About the Program

National and International mission work gives us the opportunity to join other Christians around the country and around the world, proclaiming the Good News through acts of generosity, comfort and care:

  •   Hunger Relief events bring our congregation together, young and old, to prepare and pack meal kits for people suffering from famine or disaster-related food shortages. We partner with organizations whose expertise provides the raw materials and final delivery to those in need, such as kidsagainsthunger.org
  • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is an arm of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., and its work “enables congregations to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crises and catastrophic events.” pda.pcusa.org   Our designated denominational giving, and permanent donations box, provide funding to this crucial source of support to people across the United States and around the world. Volunteers from PDA dispatch to scenes of flooding, fire and earthquakes, as well as give hope to refugees from natural and manmade disasters.
  • Beginning in 2016, Woodhaven has proudly supported the work of Christian missionaries under the auspices of PCUSA World Mission. Current Mission Co-Workers Cobbie and Desa Palm, who live and work in the Philippines, communicate regularly with our congregation and also share their stories online at presbyterianmission.org/cobbie and desa palm.
  • In the Middle East, Woodhaven has sent prayers and financial support to the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL)since 2013. In this war-devastated region, presbyterianmission.org/outreach-to-all-faiths-in-the-middle-east  has stayed firm in its commitment to a message of love and peace among all people. Perhaps the most pioneering project is a special ministry of education and learning of Arabic, English, science, mathematics and biblical values to 630 children of Syrian refugees living in camps and tents in Lebanon. The majority belong to religions other than Christianity.
  • As a church affiliated with the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., our congregation gives annually to funds which support national and international missions, known as “denominational giving” or specialofferings.pcusa.org .  In addition to the work of World Mission and PDA, these quarterly collections also support programs for at-risk youth, schools and colleges equipping people of color, pensions for retired clergy, Young Adult Volunteers, and empowerment of the poor and oppressed here and abroad, to name a few.
